Guild Wars 2 - Glory is all gone

On Martch 18th GW2 will get ride of Glory has a currency. To many who don't play the game & to many who do this really dont mean much but what it does mean is players will NOT be able to level up in SPvP. Before players could play in PvP earning Glory & use that Glory to buy XP tomes. Which at its price counts almost for a whole level.

Its very odd to see ArenaNet get rid of glory. And with Glory there also getting rid of random reward chests from PvP as well, And the bonus rank xp that came with chests players will see at the end of the match as said in this quote:
"At that time we will also be removing all existing random reward chests from PvP. This means that all rank reward vendors will be removed and we will no longer be rewarding bonus chests for winning Solo and Team Arena matches. The bonus rank points that were awarded in these chests will become part of the end of match reward."

Path of Exile - Small Expansion In March

“It expands the core game and sets the pace for our ongoing four-monthly updates.” said development at Grinding Gear Games. “Today we’re proud to announce both the name and theme of the update, while teasing some of the scope of how far the Vaal corruption has spread through Wraeclast.”
As you can see from the quote taken from PoE main page this small update will be centered around players fighting the Vaal Corruption once again but this time on a bigger scale! Personally I cant wait for the update & see what Grinding Gear Games has for PoE in the future.

NOT Giving up on KickStarter - Pantheon Rise of The Fallen

Hi all. Quick update:
We are NOT giving up on Kickstarter by any means.
We are setting up a comprehensive web site that will include all of the KS info and the ability to pledge or re-pledge. This will launch when the KS campaign ends, whether KS is successful or not.
We have already started preparing to reach out to Investors. We are finalizing some spreadsheets and polishing up the Business Plan. This phase has been planned and will also happen whether or not we meet the KS goal.

-Brad

I'm kinda upset that Pantheon wont see a successful kickstarter. As the quote above and below shows not even Brad believes his kickstarter will not see the light of day, And with only 9 days left an only reaching $380,000 of the projected $800,000. However, Brad has stated wither his project is KickStarted or not Pantheon will continue to be worked on with the help of investors.

If you wanna find out more check out there KickStarter Page.

GuildWars2 - Escape From Lion's Arch

February 18th is when we will see the new Live Story Update from arenanet this time stationed in Lion's Arch, A city that for a Guild Wars enthusiast has alot of history toward it; and a look at their teaser trailer shows Lion's Arch taking a brutal attack once again.
As the teaser trailer shows, the forces of the sylvari supervillain will soon descend upon Lion’s Arch. Aetherblade airships, dirigibles of death piloted by the dreaded pirates who now serve Scarlet, loom over the city like birds of prey. On the ground, the cruel serpentine krait and subterranean dredge hunt for prey and terrorize its citizens. In one grim moment in the video, the famed nautical architecture of the city burns as innocents try to flee the devastation.

World of WarCraft seen 7.8 Million Subscribers

World of WarCraft's Quarter 4 of 2013 earnings call showed that WoW had seen an increase of 200,000 subscribers from Quarter 3 that was listed at 7.6 Million subscribers. To think that a decade old MMORPG is still pulling out increases in their player base defiantly shows that WoW is here to stay & wont be going Free-2-Play like many people where hoping on for atlest a long while.

My MMO Ideas: Cartography, Exploration, & Religion Mechanics

There are few things in the world of MMORPGs that would generally get me excited, but when I think of systems or mechanics like cartography, exploration, and religion imputed into an MMORPG CORRECTLY mind you; I cant help but get excited. I say correctly cause many MMORPGs have these mechanics such as exploration, Guild Wars 2 comes to mind to many when they hear exploration & that's kinda what I mean by correctly imputed & also where I want to start.
Source: GuildWars2hub.com
During the launch of Guild Wars 2 we heard ALOT about "Exploration" from Arenanet on how exciting & rewarding it is, an although I'm a huge Guild Wars fan I wasn't impressed. Exploration in GW was more about looking on your map for little icons, Getting to the icon, & in the case of it being a vista; Clicking on said icon for a cut scene and some experience. And I don't believe that should be considered exploration, And if your going to argue that you need to "explore" to find hearts; Dont. The Exploration I'm talking about that should be implemented into an MMORPG is where the player's map is black, Not blurry. And not where the player will simply find icons to gain alittle experience but will actually have to draw the map, Hence where cartography comes from but I'll talk about that more later. Generally what I'm thinking is the player will start in his/her starting town and that would be the map. Not because it makes sense but because that's all he/or she should know. That is that characters world. The rest should be black cause the character has not experienced the rest.

To back up what I'm talking about think of it like a Civilization map as seen in the picture, The map only shows what you've encountered, And as you scout or EXPLORE your map starts to cover more land & grows. This is how exploration would work in my MMO. Cause it doesn't just give the player a sense of discovery but a chance to cheaply implement character development. How? If your character is questing, there by making relationships with NPCs; Lets say the hunter of your village, As your relationship with him grows he would start to tell you or hand you "Map Scrolls" informing you of small hunting locations or areas of danger near by. Giving the feeling that your character is not only developing in levels but with NPCs & their map. Simply put cheap character development.

This also brings us to Cartography. First I want to say, No it would not be a "profession" as every player would start with it and therefore; is not a crafting system. However, in a sense you would be crafting what I had said just before; "Map Scrolls." You would do this by "Mapping" an area other wise unknown to other players. What this would do is encourage players to go out into the world to discover things & map them, selling them to other players who other wise do not wish to explore the world but play the game as he/she normally would. And after awhile maps of certain kinds would be cheap to obtain not really making it a hassle for them non-adventures players. But that wouldn't be the end to Cartography, Although its been done to a point Cartography would also allow the player to customize there map. From circling points of interest to drawing pathways through mountains players would be given the freedom to do what they want with there map.

Now Religion! I really don't know why developers haven't explored this idea more. Most of the time you'll see developers just through in lore about peoples gods & kings or like in GW2 let you "follow" a god for your personal story but that's really as far as it goes. What I was think was almost a Guild System but with alot of stuff changed & added. But what do I mean? What I mean is religion like Cartography could be a mechanic to create huge depth into the MMORPG. Something players would benefit from participating in but wouldn't have to. Cutting to the chace religion would give the player buffs towards certain things that's follow that religion's beliefs, But would also give de-buffs toward things that don't aline. As an example: If a player following a religion perdominatly amde of people of trade (Merchants, Tax collecters) They would have small buffs in trading (selling or buying from NPCs) however that player would receive de-buffs towards (Finding loot/stealing) there for no religion would be unbalanced cause the de-buff would be just as bad as the the buff would be good. Things could also happen such as a party of players with the same religion receiving a small combat buff; or if players are facing each other with completely opposite faiths they would gain combat buffs toward each other.

Well, I know that was alot. Mostly it was just me trying to get out whats in my mind. If you agree or disagree with anything I've stating please comment below:) Thank you for reading & as always happy gaming!

Chris Roberts & Star Citizen Sees $38 million in crowd funding

I dont think anyone was expecting Chris Roberts to have his new Sci-Fi MMORPG crowed funded, But I think even less where expecting his crowd funding to take off like it did. Just recently the $38 million stretch goal was broken adding in an entire planetary system
"Cano System is home to a G-Type Main Sequence Star that’s almost identical to Earth’s. Of the four planets in the system, only one is inhabited: Carteyna. Located on the edge of habitable zone, Carteyna is a classic waterworld. Fortunately, its planetary axis constantly keeps the northern hemisphere away from the sun, which allowed for the water to freeze into the landmasses used as the initial landing zones in 2587. Multiple attempts have been made to try to convert the thick atmosphere into something breathable, but the process never seemed to stick. In fact, over the years, every time there’s a new technological development in geo-engineering, they test it out here on Carteyna only to yield the same result." -Roberts Letter

Although I see it as alittle ambitious Star Citizen has already taken polls for the next stretch goal at $39 million and as Chris Robert says
"At $39 million, we’ll announce a new goal that will help chart the course for the future of Star Citizen in a different way… and it’s one I’m personally very excited about, so be sure to check back then and learn more!"

To me its like he kinda expects an other million from the fans, An my only question that comes up is why does it take $39 million dollars to "chart the course of the future for his game." Whatever it is you can find out more on there official page & as always happy gaming!

Mapping The World to Create a World - ReRoll

PIXYUL, a new game development studio founded by Julien Cuny and Louis-Pierre Pharand, former producers and creative directors at Ubisoft, are working on a new survival RPG called "Reroll". And although for most developers this would mean 15hour days in front of a computer, PIXYUL has taken a different step. By that I mean; the team is seeking to map the entire world in 1:1 scale using drones. Don't believe it? Check out their 1st video below!

Source: MMORPG.com

Personally, I couldn't be more excited. Although I'm keeping my excitement to a minimum its still awesome to see developers taking on huge risks & projects like this. What could be better then surviving in OUR world, Not some Dayz world or half baked world, But our own. I'm going to be all over ReRoll, but until then go check out their main site for more, & as always happy gaming!

KickStart The KickStarter - Brad McQuaid's Pantheon: Rise of The Fallen

Kickstarter is and forever will be one of them things that people either hate or love. But it doesn't matter wither you hate or love it cause with titles such as Camalot unchained, The Repopulation, & Star Citizen raising more then 2million dollars, the fact is KickStarter is an efficient & well established way to kickstart an MMO & its company. For those of you new to KickStarter the idea behind it is that companys can post a page on KickStarter.com basically showing the gaming community what they wish to create & asking for a sum of money. It is then up to the community if they wish to "back" the project giving the company money from $1 to any where to $5,000 called "pledges." So you can understand why some people can hate the idea of giving a company money to create a game which that said company hopes to make money on. But if your a KickStarter enthusiast (like myself) its more then that. KickStarter gives companys that are not EA, Sony, Blizzard, etc. A chance to make MMOs that players want to play. So what is worth looking at this month? Pantheon: Rise of The Fallen that's what!

If you dont know the man behind this KickStarter your either 12 years old just getting into gaming or you've had your head stuck under the rock that is World of Warcraft. Brad McQuaid  is the maker of the original Everquest, An MMO that well defined MMORPGs to this day, And yes. It came before WoW. Brad was also the man behind Vangard: City of Heroes. An MMORPG he had made in an attempt to change how people play MMORPG focusing of group play, But unlike Everquest did not do so good. Eventually going free 2 play & soon to be shut down. However, Brad is back & looking for the community's help to create the dream he had so many years back & create an MMO with strategic combat & an MMO with meaning that rewards players who play together and more, And when I mean more I mean alot more. Its list of game features should just send chills up your spine, So taken from the KickStarter Page here's just some of features that you can look forward to in Pantheon:

  • A classic take on epic MMO adventure
  • A focus on exploration, adventure, and combat.
  • Finally, an MMORPG for players wanting a challenging and rewarding experience. No risk, no reward.
  • Play classes that have defined roles of tank, healer, DPS or utility (crowd and encounter control).
  • Group-focused, intensely social gameplay using a class based system to encourage teamwork.
  • Customize your class by bonding with the spirits of fallen warriors.
  • Questing that’s optional, and not the primary means of character advancement.
  • Engage in combat that will test you and your party, requiring strategy and preparation. (Read more about Pantheon's combat here)
  • Train and use a wide variety of skills as part of your character’s growth as you level up.
  • An economy that’s largely player driven.
  • Visible loot. If you see an NPC wielding a weapon it should be a part of its loot.
  • Dual targeting--attack your target while healing your allies.
  • Horizontal character growth, with fewer levels and more meaningful gains per level.
And this is really just the beginning as there is just so much more that can be found on there KickStarter.

So why back this project? Why is it something you should be looking at and excited about? Well, if your not already excited from the list above of what this game is trying to do. I think just the fact that this isn't some indie developer behind "ideas" its being created by an already established & credited group of developers that we've seen 2 MMORPGs from one that was simply amazing & ground breaking and while the other one not being so good it wasn't down right horrible, And wasn't exactly a complete fail. But the fact is we know that Brad can deliver what he sets out to do. I really want you to watch their promotion video either on their KickStarter page or here on the site:

So what do you think? Worth Backing? Not convinced yet? Check out there KickStarter Page. let us know if you Pledged! And as always happy gaming!

Edge of the Mists Live - Brings in New life to WvW in Guild Wars 2

The Edge of the Mists update brings alot to the table to GuildWars 2's WvW system adding a new map for players, some cosmetic weapons, New "Living World" story lines, along with a much needed updated queue system where Arenanet has stated from their main page.
"WvW has received a major update to the queue system! If there’s a queue to join a WvW map, approximate number of people in the queue will be visible before you try to join that map. Additionally, when you’re queued for a WvW map, you will be able to see your position in the queue."

For me I'm personally excited because GuildWars 2's RvR (Or WvW as they call it) is unmatched by most games that we can find today. And its awesome to see that Arenanet isnt just updating their PvE but all areas of the game and just shows us that GuildWars 2 is here to stay. If you haven't played for awhile I think now is the time to come on back an check out the new updates!

For more information on the update visit GuildWars 2 main site & as always happy gaming!

Top Five MMORPGs of 2013

5.) Age of Wushu (NA)

This Free-2-Play MMORPG Sandbox set in an age of martial arts with open world PvP, Intense guild system, no leveling or classes, along with everything else you could expect with any other MMORPG surprised most when it launched in April. Age of Wushu became famous with how in-depth the leveling & class system was taking players weeks to fully understand even with pages upon pages of tutorial reading, And wither you believe that's a good thing or not there's no denying a game with a massive PvP system along with enjoyable combat mechanics plus plenty of PvE content isn't, well enjoyable!

4.) Star Wars: The Old Republic

When Star Wars: The Old Republic had first came out it was basically labeled "Should be F2P" by a major part of the MMO community and soon after its launch eventually went Free-2-Play, And although still on shaky ground has recently bounced back from its discrimination & F2P convergence with the release of its 2 expansion packs Rise of the Hutt Cartel & the more recent Galactic Starfighter which had raised the level cap to 55, added an entirely new planet, while added a bunch more end game content from flash points to operations. Basically if you had left SWTOR last year cause there wasn't enough content your only going to enjoy the updates that the game has received. Oh, an did I mention there's now Starship PvP? Yea, Go check it out!

3.) Neverwinter

For D&D fans this has basically been their year, and they have Cryptic Studios to thank. With action combat and a great story if your a D&D fan or simply a sucker for looting tombs and chests with alittle skull smashing here and there Neverwinter is the MMORPG for you, at no cost!

2.) Rift: Free 2 Play

For me this was head scratching at first. There was never any controversy on why Rift wasn't going free 2 play & as far as I know it wasn't being demanded. Ran by Trion World Rift was branded (as every MMORPG these day) a WoW clone but a damn good one. And although Rift was seeing a sustaining subscriber base Trion World simply announced that they where going to go Free-2-Play to allow more players to enjoy the game while keeping there subscription model as well. At first we were to believe that Rift: Free 2 Play would simply be an extended trial, but we later found out that free players would be able to level completely though the game and participate in many (if not all) of the events that rift had offered to the subscribing members, Making Rift: Free 2 Play one of the best F2P games on the market and completely worth your time!

1.) Guild Wars 2

This really shouldn't have come as a surprise. ArenaNet has really defined the MMO Industry with the launch of Guild Wars 2 with its just beautiful & living world, In-depth personal story, engaging questing system, awesome SPvP, And an unbeatable RvR system and that's just half of what Guild wars 2 had to offer, but it really struck the Industry when ArenaNet announced that it would see updates every two weeks. As months went on Guild Wars 2 just kept getting better and better as more content, bug fixes, and events where implemented into the game making Guild Wars 2 my top MMORPG of the year and in my mind will continue to grow better as time goes on!
